| VDP-A
is capable of backing up an average of 200 virtual machines
per virtual appliance, it can safely protect environments
of several hundred virtual machines.It provides agentless,
image-level backups to disk, as well as guest-level, application-consistent
protection for MicrosoftSQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint.

| When VDP-A is used in conjunction with an EMC Data Domain system, backup data is stored on the Data Domain appliance where it stores and deduplicates a single storage pool of virtual machines. Adding backup storage is made easy at the vSphere web client with a drop-down menu selection for Data Domain, where backup data can scale to the storage capacity of the Data Domain system. Data Domain Boost software or DD Boost is used to manage data movement to the Data Domain system.
