Dear Readers,

A recurring theme which always finds its way into our conversations with clients is the struggle with enterprise mobility. Technology has been the main focus for these organizations, but they’re gradually moving to a people-centric ecosystem. However, one of the biggest challenges an organization faces today is keeping its people satisfied. That’s where enterprise mobility comes in.

Mobility, social media and cloud computing present enterprises with enormous opportunities. Though the digital universe is expanding by 40% every year, fewer than 10% of enterprises are prepared to counter these digital trends because of their infrastructure, points a recent survey by IBM. Besides, some organizations consider these trends as a bigger task when they organize their people into functional silos like HR, legal, security group, networking group or workstation group. Such organizational structures make it difficult to solve mobility problems because the solutions often span many operational domains. In a world where employees are always on-the-go, it is critical to empower them with real time and easily accessible data. The future of smarter businesses rests with the smart people- our employees, partners and clients. To stay ahead, enterprises must hop on the mobile bandwagon to stay on top of the business world.

On that note, we are happy to launch our Cloud Managed Services platform on http://www.swancloud.in which allows customers to purchase SaaS and IaaS through an approved channel, maintain their cloud licenses and view cloud consumption on a single portal.

Do You Really Need a BYOD Policy?

Trends like Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) are driving the new wave of IT and, it's a shame to leave BYOD behind. Bring Your Own Device is an IT policy. Having a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy in place lets you take advantage of the trends by connecting devices, networks and employees with one another.

Do organizations - big and small – need a BYOD policy in place? Well, BYOD will happen whether a company plans for it or not.Instead of dealing with an issue later, enterprises would rather have a BYOD plan in place. Employees everywhere are more comfortable using their personal devices at workstations, making them more productive. Besides, personal devices tend to be more cutting-edge and tend to be upgraded more often with the latest hardware and features. The benefits – better devices and better productivity at reduced costs.

Of course, security is a huge concern since corporate data is accessed on personal devices enterprises have little or no control over. The BYOD strategy should consider factors like what data employees can access, security measures if a device is lost, stolen or compromised etc. An effective BYOD solution will enable you to secure your data and not just the device. With this approach, IT departments need not worry about compromising security in the name of usability.

Expert Tips
The key to mastering mobility is setting the right priorities. There's a business risk of mobilizing the wrong processes first, or even tackling processes that won’t necessarily benefit from mobilization. To take this decision, consider two factors – if the process benefits from getting done faster, and if real-time access to information will help the process. If you need authority or approvals, those are ideal mobile situations. This would be a good place to begin your mobile strategy.
