Dear Readers,
Greetings from Swan
Solutions!
The only thing rising faster than the development of automation technology is the fervour that surrounds automation in the workplace. From the news to the check-in counter at airports, we hear about and interact with automation technology every day. There is no denying that automation and the discussion surrounding automation, is everywhere today.
Automation offers tremendous potential for leaders looking to drive transformation in their organization: from cost savings and increased delivery speed, to new operating models, to higher value activities for employees. I truly believe it is a key pillar of any digital transformation program. Because of automation, we have had the opportunity to stay ahead of competitors by adopting a rigorous approach for identifying and prioritizing automation projects that build distinctive market advantages and deliver value for organizations, customers and society at large.
Even though there is much debate about where workplace automation will lead the economy, but observers tend to agree on one thing: The trend is only gaining momentum. Every business process, such as human resource management and customer service departments, is on the table for automation, especially as technology becomes more sophisticated. No matter what the outcome, automation will undoubtedly change the workplace and, indeed, the wider economy. The only question is how much will it drastically transform the workplace?
Warm Regards,

C.E.O

Outlook: The Era of Automation in Workplace
Automated check-in kiosks now dominate ticketing areas at airports. Pilots actively steer aircraft for just three to seven minutes of many flights, with autopilot guiding the rest of the journey. Passport-control processes at some airports can place more emphasis on scanning document bar codes than on observing incoming passengers.
What will be the impact of automation efforts like these, multiplied many times across different sectors of the economy? Can we look forward to vast improvements in productivity, freedom from boring work, and improved quality of life? Should we fear threats to jobs, disruptions to organizations, and strains on the social fabric?
Here are a few trends that will have an impact on our industry:
|
•
|
The redefinition of jobs and business processes:
Automation is likely to change the vast majority of occupations-at least to some degree-which will necessitate significant job redefinition and transformation of business processes. Mortgage-loan officers, for instance, will spend much less time inspecting and processing rote paperwork and more time reviewing exceptions, which will allow them to process more loans and spend more time advising clients.
|
|
•
|
The impact on high-wage occupations:
As roles and processes get redefined, the economic benefits of automation will extend far beyond labor savings. Particularly in the highest-paid occupations, machines can augment human capabilities to a high degree, and amplify the value of expertise by increasing an individual's work capacity and freeing the employee to focus on the work of higher value.
|
|
•
|
The future of creativity and meaning:
Capabilities such as creativity and sensing emotions are core to the human experience and also difficult to automate. Automation replaces more routine or repetitive tasks, allowing employees to focus more on tasks that utilize creativity and emotion. Financial advisors, for example, might spend less time analyzing clients' financial situations, and more time understanding their needs and explaining creative options.

The avatar will sit on top of your app, or website, and interact with consumers seamlessly as a human would.
The AI will also enable people-less banks to function effortlessly, reducing the total number or people working on repetitive tasks. Customers will be able to avail facilities such as: Paying bills, Request a new card, Open a bank account, Compare card and loan options, Resolve queries etc all at the kiosk.

Patient: Doctor, I need your help. I'm addicted to Twitter!
Doctor: I'm so sorry, I don't follow.
Have you heard of that new band "1023 Megabytes"?
They're pretty good, but they don't have a gig just yet.

Expert Tip
|
|
The focus should be on facilitating workforce transitions through investing in human capital. By automating process-oriented and quantitative skills, AI will push us up the skillset ladder into the cross-functional reasoning skills, including creativity and social abilities, which make us uniquely human.
By freeing employees from these other tasks, AI will allow them to be more empathetic, to focus on creativity, customer experience, employee engagement, workplace culture, social skills, and emotional intelligence.

Digital Wellbeing (by Google)
As technology becomes more and more integral to everything we do, it can sometimes distract us from the things that matter most to us. We believe technology should improve life, not distract from it. Digital Wellbeing is a tool that will help you organise your digital usage, so that life, not the technology in it, stays front and center.
