Dear Readers,

Greetings from Swan Solutions!

2018 was a rewarding year for the Indian IT industry. It was also a year of transformation-both for the business and the technology leaders.

Forty-six percent of Indian CIOs report that their organizations have changed their business models or are in the process of changing them. The primary objective for this transformation was to be the digital businesses of the future.

As we step into 2019, the market is predicted to remain volatile with IT budgets hitting a plateau.

But, unlike earlier times, a flat IT budget is barely an indicator of hard times. In fact, 2019 promises to bring higher prospects for all the stakeholders.

And the reason is, a greater part of the incremental spends on technology will be largely driven by digital technologies including Cloud, AI, analytics and on initiative that are going to make a difference. I strongly believe, this next phase in growth for the Indian tech industry will be orchestrated by the vast ecosystem of small and midsized enterprises.

As we prepare ourselves for a highly potential and challenging year, we will have a lot of learning and unlearning to undertake.

Our success will depend on how quickly we can put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Have an exciting year ahead!

Warm Regards,

Outlook: The Indian Tech Industry in 2019

In 2018, the growth of the Indian IT industry was propelled largely by the enterprise spending on digital technologies and increased technology investments from the government. In 2019, Indian IT budgets are expected to grow by 3.9 percent in 2019, which is higher than the global average of 2.9 percent, a Gartner survey reveals.

Based on our research and customer feedback, here is a rundown on the trends that will dominate and contribute to growth in 2019.

Cloud to gain momentum in SME and Mid-market: SMEs began their cloud transitions some time ago and are now leveraging cloud for their competitive advantage and facilitate innovation. As much as 90 percent of Indian SMEs believe that cloud is critical for enabling business success, various report show. More and more applications will become ‘cloud-native’ in 2019 as both enterprises and SMEs will move their critical workloads to cloud environments.

Digital to top the priority list: Digital transformation will start getting separate budget within IT among Indian enterprises. The CDO (Chief Digital Officer) will play a significant role in shaping the IT landscape in 2019. 33 percent of businesses are already in matured stage of either scaling or refining their digital initiatives - up from 17% last year.

AI to have bigger role in customer services of all large IT players: 2019 will unleash the true potential of AI in enhancing customer experience. Chatbots, predictive analytics and robotic process automation will become mainstream and push customer experience to the next level. In next one year, 85 percent of customer interaction will be managed without a human, says Gartner.

IT workforce will reinvent and re-skill: Learning and relearning will be the main focus area of existing tech workforce in India. Business-IT hybrid roles will emerge, as organizations try to fulfil their evolving digital visions. Investments in IT re-skilling will increase by around 20 per cent in 2019.

Re-skilling: How to Get it Right

Aalign your re-skilling programs with your company's long-term goals. Your efforts should focus on skills and processes that are essential for digital transformation and for remaining competitive in an increasingly automated and distributed world. Cross-training is another sure-fire strategy to bridge the skills gap. It is important that today's workforce familiarize themselves not only with new tools, but the business processes required to support and drive business strategy. Reverse-mentoring is another tactic which is becoming increasingly popular among companies.
