Cloud
Computing - IS CLOUD COMPUTING the Right Solution
for your Organization ? Cost V/s Risk V/s
Tradition |
 |
Cloud
computing seems like a great cost saving
alternative and to an extent that is very
true. Traditionally it has been always been
a tussle between technology upgrade versus
cost. And any savings derived by an organization
on its IT infrastructure sustenance, and
growth, whether it is due to Cloud Computing
or any other technology roll-out augurs
well for the organization and for the CIO/IT
Heads. Cloud computing definitely gives
me an option today to host everything on
the Cloud and it is definitely an alternative
to the way our organization has been hosting
applications on data centres. But how much
of my organization data needs to be on the
Cloud is something which needs lot of detailing,
risk analysis and to be perceived and understood
much before I take the plunge into Cloud
Computing world.
From a competition point of view I definitely
need to start analyzing and thinking about
my organization’s cloud computing
needs today as it definitely makes some
business sense to move some areas of operations
to the cloud safely and profitably. Today
as I work on my 5 year IT Long Range Plan
(LRP), one of the key areas that goes into
my LRP planning is to work on the risk assessment
on all areas of organization information
that are probable candidates to be moved
to the cloud. I need to be cognizant of
the risks involved, understand the risk,
business impact; cost involved and develop
a plan that can address possible cloud computing
risks. But definitely I will have areas
that could give me savings and reduced risks
in the long run moving towards cloud computing.
To conclude, I would say Cloud Computing
is here to stay and how much of leverage
an organization would want to take out of
Cloud Computing will be governed by Individual
organizational sensitiveness to the amount
of data and definition of data that they
perceive is safe to be hosted on a cloud
computing. This is definitely debatable
and I would like to see more thoughts from
other CIO/IT- Head on their take on this.

Nitin Alsi was crowned the Best Swan for
the year 2010-2011 for his outstanding contribution
to Swan last year to help it cross the 50cr
mark. CommuniQA congratulates Nitin and
shares with readers a glimpse about the
man.
Nitin was born in 1972 in Akola, Maharasthra
to a family of educationists and was the
eldest of the 2 siblings. An avid cricketer
and an athletic champion, he imbibed the
passion of winning very early in life. He
did his graduation from Govt. College of
Engineering, Amravati in Electrical Engineering
and in 1993 stepped in Aamchi Mumbai to
carve his own future. Destiny brought him
to Swan where he was instantly offered a
job to sell Electronic Typewriters. He tasted
blood when he sold his first typewriter
and since then has come a long way to swing
deals for Blade Servers, Data Centres, and
Disaster Recovery Sites.
Competition and financial rewards stimulate
Nitin who believes in planning and anticipating
problems before they arrive. A straight
talker, Nitin has evolved himself to take
on newer challenges and is currently focusing
on building a team.
Nitin married Shilpa, a Chartered Accountant,
in 2001 and they have in Rishabh ( 6 years),
a very mischievous boy. Nitin stays at Kharghar
in his self-owned flat and in his leisure
time prefers to watch TV specially Amitabh
movies. Nitin has frugal food tastes so
next time you call him for dinner a simple
'Dal Chawal or Sabudana Khicdi' will suffice,
but if you want to go an extra mile, serve
him Chilly Chicken.
Alsi means 'seed' and here is one seed that
is going to be a mighty oak.. CommuniQA
wishes Nitin a very illustrious career and
a blissful family life.
