Dear Friends,
Greetings from Swan Solutions!
Software, like it or not, has already eaten the data center world. The role of hardware is gradually dumbing down, while the siloed approach to data center is already passé. Software-defined-data center is the new norm.
Nevertheless, SDDC has been a rocky road for many organizations due to its sheer complexity and diversity. Come 2017, we see SDDC occupying the CIO’s priority list, and dominating the cloud conversations of enterprises. A software-first approach is also crucial for the long-term evolution of an agile digital enterprise—experts reiterate.
The good news is, a sizeable number of IT leaders we spoke to have rolled their sleeves up for the shift to software-defined enterprises. They are in the process of evaluating the right business cases, use cases and the risks associated with SDDC. Besides, modern approaches like DevOPs and containerization technologies have made it imperative for Indian CIOs to reconsider the traditional approach to data centers.
It indeed is a software-defined future!

Bright Road Ahead for SDDC
'Spend less and do more’ has become a very familiar refrain for CIOs across the world today. They are under tremendous pressure to tame the complexity and cost associated with data centers, while improving operating efficiency across the board.
The promise of software-defined infrastructure—an agile, flexible data center, delivered ‘as-a-service’ at much lesser operating cost—is something that intrigues IT leaders. The numbers speak for themselves. SDDC market is estimated to grow from USD 25.61 Billion in 2016 to USD 83.21 Billion by 2021, at a CAGR of 26.57%.
Driven by software-defined storage and networking, SDDC will become a pioneering technology in the enterprise IT world in 2017. Mid and large enterprises, especially, are looking at introducing software-defined technologies to networking, storage, and compute.
Various market studies indicate that about 70% of IT leaders expect to see an increase in their adoption of SDDC technologies in the next one year. Software-defined-storage segment is estimated to dominate the market, owing to big data growth across industries. On the services front, SDDC is likely to spur demand in consultation & assessment, integration, migration, and managed services. In the next one year, SDDC will be a key investment priority for various industry verticals including telecom & IT, retail, healthcare, government, BFSI, manufacturing and others.

Expert Tip
Guidelines for Successful Transition to SDDC
SDDC is an inevitable transition for enterprises. However, it’s important to do it gradually, rather than doing too many things, too soon. Start small, by focusing on small-scale projects around one plane of SDDC—compute, storage, or networking. Relook at the way security has been approached so far, as all the components of the data center are abstracted into software. For instance, security solutions must be able to talk to the software-defined network (SDN). Lastly, IT teams will need to acquire new skills around orchestration and automation, to be able to sustain their SDDC efforts
